Something To It

When I went to pick Conrad up after school at my mom's this week, he was sitting quietly in his chair staring intently at the TV. She told me that after a kind of fussy afternoon, she had discovered the key to his contentment...episodes of "This Old House." She said from the moment it came on, he was instantly soothed and had yet to take his eyes off the screen. A few minutes later, when he began to whimper, we both looked up and noted that the show had ended and a different show had begun.

I did not give his fascination with the home improvement show much thought until tonight. He had been, again, a bit fussy. His father left him whimpering quietly, alone, in the living room while he went to retrieve something. When he came back, he found that Conrad was no longer crying and was now taken with whatever was on the TV. Pat looked to see what it was. Sure enough...another episode of "This Old House."

Apparently he resembles his father in much more than just looks.
